A tragic traffic accident occurred early Sunday morning on Interstate 90 in Illinois, leaving seven dead.including five children and their mother after the crash of two vehicles that ended up on fire, according to the Illinois State Police.
Officers responded to a crash involving an oncoming female driver at 2:11 a.m. They noted that a pickup truck collided with another vehicle head-on, causing both cars to catch fire.
“There are seven confirmed deaths at this time, one adult female and five children from the van and one adult female from the passenger vehicle.”state police said in a statement.
At least one person managed to survive the accident and was taken by air ambulance to Loyola University Medical Center with serious injuries, according to the head of the Hampshire Fire Protection District, Trevor Herrmann.
The fatal accident caused the temporary closure of both directions of I-90 in McHenry County during the early hours. Westbound lanes were closed near mile marker 33 for several hours, then reopened to traffic around 11:30 a.m.noted ABC 7.
State police said they will provide an update “once more information is available,” according to the statement.
