This Saturday morning is proving to be very complicated on the AP-7, with more than 30 kilometers of accumulated queue per three accidents in Castellet i la Gornal, Granada del Penedès and Maçanet de la Selva. The Castellet accident has finally been fatal with one dead and one seriously injured in a collision between a van and a truck. The accident notice was received at 08:32 at kilometer 205.7 of the AP-7, heading north.

This is the 74th victim in traffic accidents on the Catalan road network so far this year.

The Government has announced that it will extend the section of the AP-7 between l’Hospitalet de l’Infant and Amposta with a third lane. The General Secretary of Infrastructures of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Xavier Flores, has stated that the works will finish this year. In an act of the Chamber of Commerce of Tarragona, Flores has indicated that the third lane will improve the reliability of the road and its functionality, given the increase in vehicles circulating due to the elimination of tolls. He has also explained that the connectivity between the A-7 and the AP-7 will be reinforced to adapt the accesses between these two high-capacity roads.
“What has to happen this year is the tender for this construction project of the third rail, from here we will draw it up, we will tender works and they will be executed, but we will go game by game”, underlined the Secretary General of Infrastructures.
Flores has also pointed out that the section between Vila-seca and l’Hospitalet de l’Infant will be extended, but has stressed that it is not as high a priority as the one from l’Hospitalet to Amposta. “It is a priority to be able to provide a third lane that gives us reliability, that if there is an accident allows us to improve traffic, if a truck overtakes another we can overtake it on the other side, therefore, it is an improvement in functionality this way”, he commented.
