The magistrate of the Investigating Court number 3 of Pontevedra, on duty, ordered the release of the 20-year-old driver arrested for the accident that occurred this Sunday in Ponte Sampaio (Pontevedra) and in which a 23-year-old boy died.
The young man was arrested after the car he was driving fell down an embankment and after test positive for alcohol and drugs. After spending the night at the Pontevedra Civil Guard barracks, this Monday he went to court.
The magistrate has set him free but has imposed, as a precautionary measure, driving license withdrawal. He is investigated for a crime of driving under the influence of alcohol and toxic drugs and a crime of reckless homicide.
Four people were traveling in the vehicle.
The accident occurred about 11:30 a.m. this Sunday on the road that joins Camboa and Acevedo, in the Pontevedra parish of Ponte Sampaio, on the border with the municipality of Soutomaior.
In the car were four young people, two men and two women, with ages between 20 and 30 years. The vehicle, a Citroën C2, left the road on the right hand side, collided with a eucalyptus tree and ended up falling down an embankment of just over five meters.
Three occupants managed to get out of the car by their own means and were taken to a hospital. Nevertheless, the fourth occupant died on the spot as a result of the impact. He was sitting in the back seat of the vehicle. He was 23 years old and a resident of Cesantes (Redondela).
