The woman hit by a motorcyclist this Thursday in Álvaro de Bazán continues in the ICU of the Hospital Comarcal de Melilla, with serious prognosis. The young man who hit her is also in intensive care and her condition is serious.

A pedestrian who was accompanying him died in that accident. Husband and wife are victims of the motorist who jumped on them when they were crossing the avenue.

Residents of Álvaro de Bazán street in Melilla woke up dismayed this Friday after the fatal outrage suffered between eight and nine o’clock this Thursday night. The accident cost the life of a pedestrian. U driver took them ahead. This is a young man in his 20s who was driving a large displacement motorcycle.

Sources to which El Faro has had access assure that the motorist’s driving license is not valid for the type of motorcycle he was driving. However, that only represents an administrative sanction, they add.

The driver would have an A2 permit, which would be considered an administrative offense only because of the type of cylinder capacity.

Regarding the results of the breathalyzer test, police sources indicate that at noon this Friday the results are not yet available.

In addition, they assure that the motorcyclist is a metope, although this has not been confirmed by this newspaper. We have verified that he is known in the neighborhood where the events occurred.

According to the testimonies collected by El Faro among the residents of Álvaro de Bazán and Schooner Squarethe deceased is an elderly man who was accompanied by the woman, according to what they say, his wife, when both were run over by a young man from Melilla, about 20 years old, who was driving a “large displacement” motorcycle and who, from the impact, moved them several meters.

First thing in the morning, a neighbor commented to this newspaper that Álvaro de Bazán is “one of the most dangerous there is”. In addition, he added that it is normal that in that section where the fatal accident occurred, drivers go at twice the speed limit (40 km / h).

Recently, he adds, he saw a girl with a baby stroller who was almost carried away. “I braked and just,” she says, alluding to the fact that mother and son were miraculously saved from the outrage.

Another neighbor has not been able to confirm that the accident occurred when the couple crossed the pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Álvaro de Bazán with Plaza de la Goleta. He arrived when the man was being revived at the first of the green marks made by the Local Police during the crowded, which were still visible on the asphalt early in the morning.

“The motorcycle came from the traffic light,” he insists without being able to clarify whether the traffic light was green or red because that would condition the speed with which it hit pedestrians.

When he arrived at the scene, the area was “full of ambulances,” he said.

A third neighbor asks the authorities to take measures to moderate the speed in the area. “Apart from this misfortune, they have to do something here. If the traffic lights are green, they go very fast from here to the Police (Superior Headquarters),” he says.

Late this Thursday, the president of Melilla, Eduardo De Castro, lamented the running over of the deceased pedestrian. “The president wishes to convey his condolences to the family for this unfortunate and unfair loss,” they said from the City.
