The Court of Instruction number 3 of Inca decreed this Monday lto released with charges for the drunk driver which caused the fatal accident last Thursday on the s´Albufera road. The magistrate, as a precautionary measure, has withdrawn the defendant, a Bulgarian national, his passport so that he cannot leave Mallorca and also his driving license. The man, who was arrested hours after causing the accident, is still admitted to the Son Espases hospital, from where he testified via videoconference before the judge.
The accident was recorded last Thursday around 9:00 p.m. at kilometer 4, 650 of the s’Albufera road Ma-3433, which goes from Muro to Sa Pobla. The driver, who ended up being arrested, was traveling with a companion aboard a BMW at high speed when he entered the opposite lane on a curve located after passing the well-known ‘Pont de ferro’, in the municipality of sa Pobla. The BMW collided head-on with a Citroën C3 that bounced off and hit the side of a Ford Fiesta. The 50-year-old woman who was in the back seat of the vehicle died as a result of the crash.
The incident was also settled with four people seriously injured -a 50-year-old woman, two 21-year-olds and one 40-year-old- and five mild, including a 6-year-old girl. Agents from the Local Police of sa Pobla, the Civil Guard, health personnel from the Urgent Medical Care Service (SAMU-061) and the Mallorca Fire Brigade went to the scene of the accident to attend to the victims. Upon arrival, a total of three vehicles were found involved, nine people injured and one deceased. In fact, the firefighters had to release one of the occupants who was in the passenger seat from inside one of the vehicles. Minutes later the Civil Guard arrested the driver of the BMW accused of reckless homicide, refusal to submit to an alcohol test and serious injuries.
