KENLY – A registered sex offender is in jail after a lost cell phone was linked to him. On January 20th, a citizen said they were walking in their neighborhood when they located a cell phone.
They turned on the phone to attempt to identify the owner. When they did they reportedly saw child porno images on the cell phone. The citizen immediately turned the phone over to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s detectives obtained a search warrant for the phone and after opening the device reportedly found images of child pornography. Authorities learned the cell phone number was the same number Fredrick Elderidge Martin Jr. had used when he registered as a sex offender with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.
Martin, age 48, of Sunshine Road, Kenly has been on the NC Sex Offender Registry after being convicted in 1998 for second degree rape in Chatham County. He was released from prison in 2006.
Martin was arrested January 25th and charged with four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. He was confined in the Johnston County Jail under a $200,000 secured bond.
