SPRECKLES, Calif. (KMUV-TV) The man arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and causing a fatal crash over the weekend on Highway 68 and Spreckels Boulevard was out on bond. One person died in this crash.
An investigation by Telemundo 23 revealed that this man, Daniel John Wettle, 40, is the same man who had been arrested in March in the Marina, for possession of an illegal ghost pistol, in addition to being accused of having an arsenal of weapons and drugs.
On April 4, his defense attorney filed a motion to reduce his bail – which was set at $100,000. According to sources at the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office, Wettle’s mother was able to prove that the source of the bail money was not drug money.
The Marina Police Chief commented that “it is unfortunate that lenient laws have led to this tragedy”.
