The 27-year-old driver who caused the death of a 66-year-old motorcyclist in Donostia last Friday and fled has been imprisoned by order of the judge, as reported by the Security Department.

The investigations of the Ertzaintza ended with the identification of the vehicle that caused the accident, which was located this past Saturday circulating through the town of Rentería (Gipuzkoa).

The agents began monitoring the van, whose driver was circulating committing traffic offenses and at a speed much higher than the permitted speed, endangering the rest of the road users.

A patrol stopped the van at the height of Riberas de Loiola and after carrying out a drug and alcohol test on the driver, he tested positive for both.

They also verified that he had never had a driving license, so they arrested him accused of causing a death by serious recklessness and driving under the influence of alcohol and toxic drugs.

Likewise, he was also charged with abandoning the place after causing an accident and driving without ever having obtained a driving license. EFE

The tragic event that ended with the life of a person took place last Friday at a quarter past nine on the GI-20 road as it passed through the capital of Gipuzkoa. According to what has been known through the investigation carried out, a van was circulating exceeding the speed limits in that section of the variant when it collided with the motorcycle. Due to the crash, the motorcycle left the road and hit the fence, leaving the motorcyclist lying on the grass.

While several people stopped to help the victim and notify the emergency services, the driver who caused the accident fled. Immediately afterwards, health personnel and the Ertzaintza moved to the scene and, at the same time that the victim was assisted and urgently transferred to a hospital, the patrols gathered information on the spot about what happened.

The investigations carried out led to the identification of the vehicle that caused the accident, which was located yesterday morning while driving through the town of Renteria in the direction of Donosti.

The agents began monitoring the van, whose driver was circulating committing traffic violations, making zigzag overtaking, both on the right and on the left at a speed much higher than allowed and endangering the rest of the road users.

A patrol was able to stop the van at the height of Riberas de Loiola and, after carrying out a drug and alcohol test on the driver, he tested positive for both.

It was also found that he has never obtained a driver’s license. Given these facts, the agents proceeded to arrest the driver for causing a death due to serious recklessness and for driving under the influence of alcohol and toxic drugs. Likewise, he is also accused of leaving the place after causing an accident and driving without ever having obtained a driving license.

The arrested of 27 yearswill be brought to justice once the police investigations are completed.
