Four people died after a helicopter crash in New Mexicowith three Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) officers and a Bernalillo County firefighter as victims.

BCSO spokeswoman Jayme Fuller said people aboard the Metro 2 helicopter were preparing to return to Albuquerque after helping firefighters with a fire in East Mesa.

“There are no known survivors”Fuller said. “At this time, the investigation of this incident is in its preliminary stages. As we learn more details, we will provide them through official press releases.”

Authorities did not identify the victims. They also did not advance what caused the accident or give more details.

According to data from an online flight tracking tool FlightAware, the Metro 2 helicopter, N911SZ, last recorded a position around 2:32 p.m. Saturday near Las Vegas.

For its part, the New Mexico State Police confirmed the accident on Sunday morning.

“State police are at the scene of a helicopter crash with four deaths in San Miguel County”The agency said, adding that the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the event and will provide information as it becomes available.

Meanwhile, New Mexico Department of Public Safety Cabinet Secretary Jason Bowie declared that the four victims who died in the crash were heroes.

Today, our hearts are broken by the tragic and heartbreaking news that we have lost four of the best public servants in the state, killed in the line of duty.. It’s a sacrifice no one should have to make,” Bowie said in a statement.

Bernalillo County Commissioner Charlene Pyskoty wrote from her Twitter: “I am absolutely devastated. Carrying my loved ones in my heart.”
