KEARNY MESA – A woman died Tuesday morning after being struck by the driver of a black Tesla that ran a red light Tuesday morning.
San Diego police are investigating a deadly crash in Kearny Mesa Tuesday morning, during which they say a man driving a Tesla ran a red light, striking and killing a woman who was walking on Convoy Street. .
The driver of the Tesla went airborne during the crash, then slammed into a pedestrian on the sidewalk near Othello Avenue and destroyed a no parking sign before his car stalled at a KFC window, losing one of its wheels in the crash.

Police said the 39-year-old driver, Frank Shoaf, admitted to running a traffic light, hitting a pothole that sent his car flying into the air before it landed on a person walking on the sidewalk.
Julio Lizárraga witnessed the incident and called 911 after trying to help the driver out of the Tesla before police arrested him.

“I was trying to open the door, but the doors were stuck and the guy seemed lost,” Lizárraga said, adding that the victim “wasn’t breathing when I came back with [ella]. It seemed as if [ella] I wasn’t breathing.”
Shoaf faces multiple charges, including felony vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of drugs and causing bodily injury. He was booked into jail on $100,000 bond, pending a bond hearing.
Shoaf is due in court in downtown San Diego on Thursday.
