I don't think that if you are racist as a young kid that is going to mean you are going to be racist your whole life. That is like saying if people are homophobic in their youth that they are always going to be homophobic. The video itself says that he grew up in a very segregated place in Boston. Which means that not only he was racist but also everyone that lived around him. The people he went to school with, the people he hung out, probably kids and adults. The thing is though when he left that place and began to meet more people outside of the bubble that he lived in then his views changed. He could have sat and remained the same but he met knew people and he came under the realization that people aren't as bad as others say they are. How can I say this? I live in West Virginia. There is a lot of racist shit around here. There are people selling Confederate Flags on the side of the road. You can be in Walmart and here people say shit. I was never racist because my family were friends with other black families. Our Avon lady was my grandmother's best friend and she was black. I used to go and cut grass for her and her mother. I loved her to death. We also had a black guy named Mr. Carter who was a very famous preacher here who used to work on the railroad as a chef. He didn't have his own church but he was almost a celebrity preacher here because he would go around to other places to preach and he would cook some of the best food you ever had and sell it to help raise money for those churches. When Mr. Carter was preaching and cooking the word went out and this was before social media. Just word of mouth and the churches would be full in whatever church he was in and the church would make hundreds if not thousands of dollars from his cooking. At one point his grandson passed away. I was probably somewhere between 6 and 8 at the time and I ran into him a the post office/store. My grandma had told me his grandson had died and I went up to him on my own accord and told him that I would be his grandchild if he wanted me to be. I always did consider him to be a grandpa to me. He was the sweetest man ever and when I was a teenager I baked a cake from my grandma's cook book and I took it down to him. Even today people who knew him said if that man didn't get into heaven the rest of us are doomed because he was the greatest thing ever. I loved that man to death. When I was young though I didn't refer to Mr. Carter or Ellaine, our Avon lady, as black or African American. I referred to them as "colored" that didn't make me racist because that is what they referred to themselves as. They didn't call themselves black. That was how the preferred to be referred to. I ask them one time when I had went away for college and I said the word "colored" to some black students and they threw a fit and said "We are not colored, we are black!!" so I went back and asked Mr. Carter about it and he put his hands on my shoulders and he said "Do I look black to you? I am black, I am brown so compared to you I am colored" But I respected both groups and I didn't call the college kids or anyone else colored but to Ellaine and Mr. Carter and his wife I referred to the as colored although it very rarely ever came up because to me they were just part of the family. Did that make me a racist? I hope not because I don't consider myself one. I tend to love people by who they are and their deeds than I do by something like the color of their skin. That is like now. People who are gay like to be called "Queer" I absolutely hate that word. They weren't around during a time when that word was offensive and I was taunted with it day in and day out. So when people asked me how I identified I would call myself a "Fag" or "Faggot." Well that offended many people and they told me that I couldn't use that word but I still do even today. I was offended by "Queer" and it is not just me but older generations also who experienced the trauma of that word. But if you can take the word "Queer" back then I can take the word "Faggot" back. Also on another note also, I use the word "tranny" also. But I also consider myself to be trans to so I think I have a right to use that word and no one can tell me otherwise. It doesn't make me homophobic or transphobic when I use those words. Like I said before I judge a person by who they are and by their deeds and if they can use what they want to identify as, then so can I. So basically in this long rant. The moral is I think people can change by the experiences you have had in life, the people you meet on the journey, and I don't think anyone stays the same. I haven't lived my whole life in West Virginia. I joined the Army and was a gay soldier during Don't Ask, Don't Tell. I was harassed relentlessly for being gay and even one time was stripped and held down as they had a woman try to have sex with me and rape me. Something that I never reported because of that shame. They were trying to turn me straight. Our experiences shape us. It makes us who they are so I don't think that you can sit and say just because someone did shitty stuff in their youth that they can't become a better person when they age. Sorry for the long ass comment.
He’s too successful with this on his record he doesn’t deserve a pardon. It’s the LEAST he can do. I agree with Sloan….
He can’t even as an adult acknowledge what he did, seek forgiveness, put his hands out to help people who are hurt by situations like he himself caused….?! Anything??? Even if it’s to say he’s trying chances he can…??? Nothing he can do or say to make it right or undo it… at LEAST SEE it for what it is! Jesus! This is wild…. I was a fan and loved his movies. He shouldn’t be pardoned…. F that
This guy is disgusting asF!!!! Seeing black actors like Kevin Hart working with him makes me cringe.
I understand his past is disgusting, but 35years ago when he was 15-16? And you're saying "once a racist always a racist" tf???? I'm a black guy in Italy and I don't know how ir is in the US but I see and understand how strong group pressure can be and hoe close-minded a group can make you, the fact that you looked back at bad acts he PAID FOR 35years ago as a teen to define his character now is CRAZY. the fact that you think people can't xhange, especially from teenagers to adults in MORE THAN 3 DECADES is beyond close-minded from yall
I would never patronize any of his Wahlburgers restaurants. He's trash. You can see it on his face… The anger and racism with that permanent frown.
My mom is from the same gen as Mark and thinks he's a good guy for being part of the culture as a rapper way back when. If I ever bring this up with receipts she'll never accept it so I'll just stay here with y'all. 🥴
I am a believer in second chances don't get me wrong. We all make mistakes but when it comes to Mark it's very different in my opinion because he actually attack people and that's a scary type of hate crime and racism. That you would be so racist that you need to physically harm people. It hurts when someone throws virtual slurs at you it does but it's different when they try to attack you simply because of the way you were born that you can't help. So yes he's a dangerous predator in that regard and it should forever be on his legacy and reputation. I'm doing enjoy his movies not going to lie because no matter what people are still going to support him and they have supported him even through his racism. I hope that he's really changed and he's not just saying this for publicity. Because he's working with many people of color. It's sad but it's the environment he was raised in. His family is racist they raised them that way. It's one thing to be racist and and have a pain about something and say racial things but it's another to act on it that's what makes it sick that you would let it sit in manifest where you want to hurt people
Yall saying this man is culturally appropriating. Technically…he's the black folks of the white race. He's irish! They were the most disliked group of people way before blk folks. But I guess, He's pretty much black at this point. Lmaooooo
I think you genuinely can change racist behavior of the past.
I just don’t think he did. Otherwise he wouldn’t be asking for a pardon. Growth requires full acknowledge of wrong-doing and not expecting forgiveness or trying to bury it. Actions have consequences……I’m not too sure he’s actually learned that.
Not roman reigns taking steroids. 😫 also never heard of Mark Wahlberg being a racist. That's so awful. Thank you for spreading awareness on this.
So ironic that this showed up bc I just watched his new movie with Kevin Heart Me Time on Netflix. I didn’t know about these disgusting actions of his and I do not understand how he still is doing what he’s doing this is why people feel strongly about about white privilege while I personally feel he got away due to his status and having money however I will no longer be watching any of his movies his actions are disgusting disrespectful and yes narcissistic 💯
Theres rappers who literally killed people and we forgive. Why not this?
You do realise its called the past for the reason. People change simple cancel culture is cancer….every human being on the planet makes mistakes you either be realistic about it or you do what small minded people do and focus on other peoples mistakes to take your mind off your own.
I disagree I think racist people can change and decide to become better cuz Ik a lot of people who have changed their fucked up mindsets
I got bullied for being white (Ik laugh it up 🙄) and called racial slurs and harassed and it didn’t feel good. I can’t imagine getting hurt while they do that it would be scarier. They did throw shit but I never got really hurt it wasn’t rocks or anything. Especially kids older than you that’s terrifying because you don’t know if it’s gonna get worse.
He has literally gotten away with near murder several times and became a huge star with tons of money and he still drinks 🍹 despite his dangerous @ddict past.
Yeah there’s a lot of shitty/racist people in America with lots of money and power. That’s the whole problem. Shitty people in power.
I had no idea about any of this😳 Thank you so much for bringing us the truth🙏❤️🙏
If he’s saying he has changed, he’s lying. My best friend (who is Asian) recently waited on him at an upscale LA restaurant. Apparently he’s still extremely hostile and hateful towards Asian folks. Sad.
Yesss I’ve been waiting for you to do a video on him it’s absolutely mind boggling that he was able to get so famous after he did so many racist horrible things
Why does he remind me of jrock from Trailer Park Boys?
at least he is honest about what he really feels… why should he pretend to be inclusive when he isn't… just stay true to yourself….
Who cares if someone is racist…live your lfe…stop demanding that everyone likes and approves of you…
Love Mark . With all of his flaws 🙌🏼
Once a racist always a racist is what I say
Thanks a lot for covering this! He did the crime so he needs to do the time and yes that means the time in jail as well as out.
Sloan, I don't care how laid back of a person someone is. When they've been high for 4 days on crack they're not going to be "going out trying to have fun" drugs make you feel good, they're not fun
Jeez, I thought this would just be another old tweet. Way worse than I would have thought.
Kinda off topic, but not Roman Reigns being one of those doctors clients and only failing one drug test 🤔🤔🤔
He deserves to be punished
When I was a teenager or in high school I used to hang out with many bad friends or racist friends who would want to attack non-locals for no reason but I was the one who would stop them .
There was one night when 6 of them walk down the street in the middle of the night, there was one Indian hindu guy walking on the road and my friends wanted to beat him but I tried hard to stop them. I'm also a short -temper guy but I know what is wrong and right. When someone is minding their business and never provoke you in whatsoever, attacking them just because they look different is simply wrong whether you are a kid or not.
