NEW YORK – An Ecuadorian family mourns the death of a 5-year-old boy who lost his life after being hit by a hit-and-run driver in Queens. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, and on Friday the police were still searching for the suspect who took the boy’s life before the eyes of his father and his little brothers.
The father was with his three children after spending time in the park, which was close to his house, when at about 5:30 pm on Friday the four were crossing the intersection of 100th Street and Mclntosh Street and the vehicle hit the little Jonathan Martinez, 5 years old. All in the presence of his loved ones.
“All I wanted was for him to stop, for a tire not to pass over him… but his evil I don’t know where he was, he passed both tires over him. At that moment my child died,” he said devastated Richard Martínez, father of the child.
The minor died when he was with his father and little brothers. Alfredo Acosta with the details.
The crash site was filled with candles and flowers in honor of the little boy, who is remembered as an outgoing child who was excited to return to school.
Images from surveillance cameras captured the accident that ended the life of the minor.
“The man came with his three children fine, when the car turned around the man looked and managed to take a little step back with his three children and save the other two,” said a neighbor.
The driver of the vehicle, a white Dodge, fled the scene and there are no arrests yet.
The case is under investigation.
