Barcelona seems doomed to have the worst data on fatal traffic accidents in the last five years. With more than two and a half months remaining in the year, 21 people have already died in the city. The data is very worrying and already exceeds 12 deaths in 2021, 14 in 2020 and 12 in 2017. In 2018, throughout the year, there were 21 claims with deaths, the same as on October 11, 2022. And in 2019, the last year before the pandemic, 22 people transferred, the highest figure since 2016.
The last fatal accident took place this Monday. An 84-year-old woman was killed around 5:00 p.m. when she was hit by a City Hall garbage truck. The accident occurred at number 383 Carrer de la Mare de Déu del Port, in the district of Sants-Montjuïc. The neighbor is the fifth pedestrian to die this year in Barcelona. The rest of the deaths are motorcyclists, 15 in total, and the driver of a passenger car in a multiple crash in the Litoral round in July.

15 MOTORISTS KILLED IN LESS THAN 10 MONTHS
Motorcyclists are the group with the most deaths in recent years, from 2018 to 2021. The 15 that have been killed this year are almost twice as many as there were in all of last year -eight-. During the first half of 2022, of the 11 deaths in traffic accidents, 10 were motorists, 90% of the total. At the end of August this year, two motorcyclists aged 21 and 32, respectively, died in just 24 hours in the city. In 2015, 17 motorcyclists died in Barcelona.
Until the death of this Tuesday, the last fatality in Barcelona city was a homeless person who was run over by a taxi driver at dawn on Saturday, October 1, on the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, near the Serra passage.

88 DEAD IN 1990
