Police in the suburb of Oak Lawn say one person has died and several others have been injured after a high-speed crash involving multiple vehicles early Sunday morning.
According to authorities, officers were called to the intersection of 110th Street and Cicero Avenue at approximately 1:50 am Sunday. A preliminary investigation shows that a Dodge Charger and a Honda Accord were traveling south on Cicero at a high rate of speed when the Charger struck the rear of a four-door Lincoln sedan near the intersection.
The force of the collision pushed the Lincoln into the path of an oncoming Dodge Ram pickup, which the Lincoln struck head-on.
A passenger inside the Lincoln was killed in the crash and the driver of the vehicle was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Ram truck was also taken to an area hospital, where she received treatment for her injuries. Her two passengers were not injured in the collision.
Police say the Charger stopped after the crash at the intersection of 110th and Cicero. The driver, the only person in the vehicle, was detained by police.
The Honda went off the road near 109th and Cicero and hit the bench of a bus stop, causing the vehicle to flip several times before coming to rest in a parking lot, police said.
The driver of the Honda was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say the two drivers of the Charger and Honda will likely face charges in the crash, but names will not be released until those charges are filed.
Both drivers are currently under investigation for driving under the influence of alcohol.
