Authorities in New Jersey are investigating a spectacular multivehicular accident that left at least one dead and more than a dozen injured on Friday night.
According to the uniformed officer, the accident was recorded in the southbound lanes of Route 77, at the height of County Route 612 (Polk Lane) around 6:06 p.m.
The investigators detailed that everything happened when the driver of a Chevrolet Express 3500 van, identified as Heriberto Espinoza, 29, did not stop at a stop and proceeded to ram the driver of a Nissan Maxima.
The impact was such that both vehicles went flying and ended up overturned on the side of the road.
It was reported that Espinoza was traveling with 17 passengers, 16 of whom were not seriously injured, but one passenger, identified as Rey Cornelio Díaz, 35, died after being thrown out of one of the windows.
Espinoza and the driver of the Nissan, Paul Holsopple, 66, were injured but are expected to recover.
Following the crash, the intersection was closed for about six hours, police said. The accident investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been reported.
